Apostille Services in
Delhi

Delhi is where the MEA's apostille function actually sits, which leads a lot of people to assume they can walk in with a document. They cannot — the Ministry accepts nothing directly from an individual, and that has been the position since the collection function was outsourced. Being in Delhi changes the geography of the process, not the rules.

Worth knowing first

There is no apostille office in Delhi — or anywhere else.

An apostille is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs and by nobody else, and the MEA acceptsno document directly from an individual. Collection is handled through a small number of MEA-authorised agencies. Every "apostille centre" advertising in Delhi is routing your document through one of those channels. So do we — we just show you the price without a form first.

How It Works for Delhi Documents

Birth & death certificates

MCD

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (with NDMC covering the New Delhi area)

Marriage certificates

Office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the district, acting as Registrar of Marriages for Delhi

Home Department — the slower alternative to the SDM

Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, Delhi Secretariat, I.P. Estate

10–20+ days, against 3–7 through the SDM. We use it only where a destination or receiving institution requires it.

  • Birth and death certificates for most of the city are issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with the New Delhi Municipal Council covering the NDMC area. Cantonment areas register separately again. Which body issued yours does not change the apostille route, but it does change where you go if the record needs correcting first.

  • In Delhi, marriages are registered through the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the district, which is unusual — in most states the registrar and the SDM are different offices. It means the officer who registers a Delhi marriage and the officer who pre-authenticates it for apostille sit in the same structure, though they remain separate acts.

  • The MEA's apostille function is administered from Delhi, and this is the source of the most persistent misconception we deal with: that being in Delhi lets you submit directly. It does not. The Ministry accepts no document from an individual at its counter, which is why an authorised collection channel is necessary rather than merely convenient.

  • The Delhi Home Department at the Delhi Secretariat is the alternative to the SDM route, at 10–20+ days against 3–7. We default to the SDM unless the destination specifically asks otherwise.

Getting Your Document To Us

How Delhi Orders Actually Work

We do not have an office in Delhi and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Documents travel by tracked courier — you send the original to us, we handle notarisation where it is needed, the SDM stage and the MEA deposit, and the apostilled original comes back to your address. Every hand-off is photographed and you get the scan the day the sticker is issued.

Courier is charged at what it actually costs and quoted before you pay — it is not bundled into the ₹2,100 and it is not marked up.

Before you order

An apostille only works for Hague Convention countries.

130 Contracting Parties as of 30 June 2026. The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Malaysia, Iraq and Iran are not among them — those need embassy attestation, and an apostille will be rejected. Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia are members, which is where most people get the Gulf wrong.

FAQ

Apostille in Delhi — Common Questions

Can I submit my document to the MEA directly in Delhi?

No. The Ministry of External Affairs accepts no document directly from an individual at its counter — collection is handled through a small number of MEA-authorised agencies. Being physically in Delhi makes no difference to this. We deposit through an authorised collection channel on your behalf.

Where is the MEA apostille office in Delhi?

The apostille is issued by the MEA in New Delhi, but there is no public counter you can use — documents reach it through authorised collection channels only. Searching for the office address will not get your document apostilled; what you need is a route to deposit it, which is what we provide.

Who issues a birth certificate in Delhi for apostille?

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi for most of the city, the New Delhi Municipal Council for the NDMC area, and the cantonment board for cantonment areas. All three are valid for apostille. A hospital-issued certificate is not.

How long does apostille take in Delhi?

3–7 working days of processing — the SDM stage plus the MEA deposit — with courier transit on top. The Delhi Home Department route takes 10–20+ days instead, which is why we default to the SDM.
