There is no apostille office in Pune — or anywhere else.
An apostille is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs and by nobody else, and the MEA acceptsno document directly from an individual. Collection is handled through a small number of MEA-authorised agencies. Every "apostille centre" advertising in Pune is routing your document through one of those channels. Birth and death certificates are issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation, with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation covering that area separately. Both are valid for apostille, as are certificates from the surrounding municipal councils and panchayats in Pune district.
Maharashtra's Home Department sits at Mantralaya in Mumbai, not in Pune, so the slower route means the document travels regardless. That is one more reason the SDM route at 3–7 days is the sensible default for Pune-issued documents against 10–20+ at the Home Department.
Pune's outbound student flow to Germany, Italy and the Netherlands means birth certificates are the most-requested document here, usually alongside academic records. Note that academic documents follow a different route — State HRD rather than SDM — and are quoted separately rather than covered by our standard personal-document service.
Certificates issued in Marathi are standard outside the corporation areas. Valid for apostille as issued; German and Italian authorities in particular will require a certified translation, and several want it done by a sworn translator recognised in their own jurisdiction.
